Our distant ancestors from the New Stone Age already mastered the art of making ceramics. Çatalhöyük, in present-day Turkey, is one of the most important archaeological sites in the world. Excavations beginning in 1961 revealed this to be an important Neolithic and Chalcolithic settlement in south-central Anatolia. The pottery found was about eight thousand years old but still partially intact. We call this the enduring power of mud.
